UNDER 13’S

DEVONPORT were unable to field a side, so we mixed teams to enable us to play a 7s style game. Game experience is always beneficial, and the Crediton girls played some fantastic rugby.

An excellent move off a free kick, organised by the girls – showed some promising decision making; great tackling and support following ball carriers with strong running.

Scores weren’t officially recorded, but it’s safe to say 99 per cent of the tries were scored by Crediton players.

UNDER 15’S

The Crediton U15 girls’ team continued with their winning start to the season with a romping victory. The host side were short of girls to make up a game so Crediton Girls volunteered to play for them so a match could go ahead.

With 12-a-side on a large pitch the Crediton girls continually worked the ball around and found space to keep driving forward again and again.

It wasn’t long before the recipe for victory was found and speedy winger Katie Salter was consistently given the room to attack which resulted in her scoring all of Crediton’s four first half tries, to which the Plymouth side could only counter with one of their own; ironically very nearly scored by one the Crediton “exiles” following opportunities presented by other Crediton “exiles”.

The half ended with Crediton 22-5 ahead with a conversion added to the tries.

The second half followed a slightly different pattern with the ball being carried more into the tackle and then set up or passed back for another girl in black and gold to drive on again.

Every one of the Crediton girls strode forward when given the opportunity and some good handling meant that the opposition never really got the chance to get back at the Mid Devon side.

Crediton ran home five tries in the second half – and in a complete reversal of the first half – scored by five different girls, the game ending in a comfortable 49-5 victory.

Coach Anthony Evans said afterwards: “Firstly, thank you to all of the girls that volunteered to go and play for Devonport. If they hadn’t have done that then, basically, we wouldn’t have had a game at all today.”

He continued: “On the game itself; it’s always hard to play against a team with so many of your own players but in the main our girls showed some great moments of individual skill, and everyone today had a desire to get themselves on the ball to try and get a score.

“We’ll have to come together a bit more when we play better teams, but that’s something to work on in training.

“If we can keep winning then that habit will serve us well as we go through the season and gives us something to build on.”

Try Scorers: Katie Salter (4), Holly Yeandle, Caitlyn Yeandle, Beth Daw, Amelia Richards and Eva Lewis. Conversions: Beth Daw and Caitlyn Yeandle.

UNDER 18’S

Crediton Girls’ Under 18s fortunes were reversed this week, with a number of experienced players missing and against a very good strong Devonport side, Crediton came out the losing side at 5-55.
