Crediton Women’s Team 7 Cullompton Women’s Team 12

ON the night of Friday, September 1, Crediton RFC Ladies opened their account with a trial game against championship stalwarts Cullompton Ladies at Blagdon in Crediton.

This was a very tight affair, with both sides coming out of the blocks trying to play expansive rugby.

But it was Crediton who came out early leaders with a well worked move breaching the away side’s defence with a final pass to Libby Baker.

Libby side-stepped and exerted her pace to finally finish off the move and to cross the whitewash under the post, leaving Rachel Mortimer to add the extra.

A slightly stunned Cullompton side reacted by working their way up the pitch, to apply pressure on Crediton’s line, until the line was breached but the conversion was unsuccessful leaving the score at half-time, Crediton 7 -Cullompton 5.

The second half was a very tight and cagey affair with several exchanges not coming to any real resolve.

Late in the half Cullompton created an attack that Crediton seemed to be able to hold their defensive line.

But it was deemed that Crediton infringed with a high tackle on or by the line which gave the referee no option but to award a penalty try to Cullompton.  Final score was Crediton 7 - Cullompton 12.

With this being the first game, I feel the team and coaches are very pleased with the performance and look forward to the up and coming season.

Just to add we are always looking to welcome new players to enjoy what can only be described as a flourishing team with potential to do well again this season.

Just turn up on any Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8pm.
