NORTH Tawton got their 26/27 season off to what could be called a get-to-know-your-new-coach match against a Tavistock side that plays in a higher league, so no league points at stake, just basically a blow-off-the-cobweb match of four 20-minute sessions.

While the scoreboard never lies, it could give the view that Tavistock ran away with it and it was quite easy for them; nothing could be further from the truth.

North Tawton gave as good as they got except getting the ball down over the Tavy try line; knock-on forward passes and dropped balls not helping the Tawton cause but they did manage to go over in the last play of the game that avoided being nilled at home.

The match was played in good spirits and gives North Tawton confidence as they get stuck into their full league programme that starts away against Newton Abbot on September 25.
