North Tawton 65 - Hayle 7

BACK to Taw Meadow for last Saturday’s action, taking on bottom of the table, Hayle.

The game kicked off 15 minutes late due to the Cornish side’s late arrival.

With all the problems on the road they did well to get here at all.

Very windy conditions prevailed all through the match, making kicking all but impossible.

This seemed to unnerve both teams and for the first 20 minutes there appeared to be very little difference between either side.

It was with a feeling of relief that the Tawts celebrated their first try and with the conversion added moved into the lead, a lead that it has to be said never looked in danger for the rest of the match.

Another try from Ash Poynton, and one each from Will Lethbridge and Ryan Goss, took us to half-time 22-0 up, the bonus point in the bag.

North Tawton made wholesale changes with several of the starting line up being rested but it was normal service resumed with one of the replacements in the way of Rio Thomas going over to keep the score board ticking.

This was soon added to with tries from James Bowden, Jack Phare, Kiren Lee and his third try of the match, Ash Poynton.

The wind made any kick at the posts very difficult but, to his credit, Gary Sizmur added 10 points to the final score with five on target.

Right at last knocking, with the last play of the game, Hayle avoided being nilled with a consolation try under the post.

The conversion was added, giving us the final score of 65-7.

Now it’s a weekend off, so it will be a chance for one or two players to rest a few niggling injuries.
