ON Monday afternoon, (July 7), more than 200 children from the Crediton and Exeter area took part in the annual tag rugby festival, kindly hosted by Crediton Rugby Club and refereed by students from Queen Elizabeth's School.

Teams from Cheriton Fitzpaine, Thorverton, Newton St Cyres, Sandford, Copplestone, Hayward's, Brampford Speke, Stoke Hill and Exwick Heights proudly represented their schools.

Many of the children were inspired by recent events at the club including the visit of the World Cup Trophy and the Jack Yeandle Testimonial.

Teacher Scott Baker said: "You could see many players trying to emulate their heroes with flair and passion.

"The standard of rugby was excellent.

"A great afternoon was had by all with the overall winner being Hayward's Primary School.

"The “Fair Play” Award as voted for by the referees, for showing fantastic sportsmanship, shaking hands and a bubbly attitude went to Brampford Speke Primary School!
