MORE than 200 children, representing 20 teams from primary schools in the Crediton area participated in the annual tag rugby festival this month, kindly hosted by Crediton Rugby Club and refereed by Year 9 students from QE School.
Organiser Scott Baker explained: “Thankfully the extreme heat had passed and manageable conditions presented the perfect opportunity to exhibit their talents.
“The children played some fantastic rugby showing pace, evasive running and high level passing. Determination and teamwork were the order of the day, and the teams surely delivered!

“As for results, though not the main focus, the final of the Bowl saw Thorverton victorious.”
He added: “It was victory in the Shield for Copplestone against a determined Tedburn St Mary's team.
“The Cup final was an end to end game with Copplestone’s other team losing to Hayward's who retained their title of Cup Winners.
“However, the main focus of the day was connecting with others who we might otherwise not get to, keeping active by playing games and having fun, which is why we call it a festival.
“The ultimate award is always the 'Fair Play' Award which is voted for by the referees and organisers.
“The winners this year for their perseverance, sportsmanship and respect was Thorverton Primary School.”
Mr Baker thanked all who helped make it a great afternoon of sport and fun and that he was looking forward to next year's festival.
