Entries are now open for the Crediton Crunch, a popular run in the town that draws entries from far afield.

The Ernest Jackson Crediton Crunch will be re-launched in May this year, after taking a year out and will be organised by local running club, Crediton Running Network (CRN).

The event will be held on Sunday, May 13, starting at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre at 10.30am and is open to anyone over the age of 15 years. All finishers will receive a momento.

The 10k multi-terrain run will take a new, improved route for 2012 passing through the stunning grounds of Downes House, (by kind permission of Dr Jack Shelley) and down the avenue of Shobrooke Park.

The run will avoid many of the hills that runners previously had to contend with and will be suitable for runners of all abilities.

Entry to the race will cost £10 for licensed entrants and £12 for standard entry, with money raised going to the event charity the Children's Hospice South West.

Once entered, runners will receive details of children's activities, which will be organised by Premier Sports, at Lord's Meadow Leisure Centre during the Crediton Crunch.

Kimberley Andrews, assistant brand manager for Ernest Jackson explained: "As a true community event, the Crediton Crunch is being sponsored by Ernest Jackson, one of the largest employers in Crediton and is being organised by the Crediton Running Network."

Mid Devon Leisure are also supporting the event and providing use of the Lords Meadow Leisure Centre on the day of the race.

Nigel Bowers, Team, Exeter ( a sports and exercise medicine clinic) will be offering a free sports physiotherapist at the Crunch for a small donation to the Children's Hospice South West.

The Crediton Running Network hope to start a new group, which will focus on training specifically for the Crediton Crunch, if there are enough people interested.

Spaces in this year's Crediton Crunch are limited to 200 entrants. As this is a popular race early entries are advised.
