PRESIDENT’S Day at Crediton Bowling Club has taken place and it is traditional for all those playing to stand in a circle around the green and deliver one wood towards the Jack with the closest getting a prize.

When the wood is delivered it is obvious in which direction it is going but then when you go to collect it that is far more difficult!

Joan Martin, Crediton President, hosted the day and a sumptuous tea was laid on for all to enjoy.

The previous weekend saw the “Taster Days” with the chance for anyone to turn up and try their hand.

The coaches were busy for much of the day with even an eight-year-old giving it a go.

The Club is currently running Youth Coaching sessions so it’s not too late to get the little ones involved.

The ladies have added to their successes previously reported.

They won their Interclub Second round match against Plymouth St Francis Drake and will now meet Barnstaple Ashleigh Road on July, 5 in the next round.

Liz Smerdon, Nikki Payne, Amy Simpson and Helen Ellis are through to the last 16 of the Major Senior 4’s and Christine Marshall, Maggie Chaplin, Sue Grigg and Carol Haywood are through to the County quarter finals of the Major Senior 4’s.

The ladies have also beaten Barnstaple in the National Top Club a fixture which requires all four disciplines of singles, pairs, triples and rinks to be played.

We wish all our ladies good luck as they move forward.

The Exeter and District Mens Over 60’s Triples League has 10 teams in each division, Crediton has three teams and all fixtures are played on a Wednesday afternoon.

Two groups of three players make up the team with two points available for winning your rink and four points for whoever wins overall making a maximum of eight points in each fixture.

The A team play in Division One and defeated Heavitree A 8-0 in their last fixture and currently lie third in the table.

The B team are third in Division Four but in their last outing lost 8-0 to Axminster.

Crediton C are seventh in Division Six having gained their first victory against Otter St Mary D winning 6-2.

As two teams have already dropped out of this league it is hoped that any chance of relegation has been removed!
