A PLEDGE Auction, organised by Crediton Rugby Club's Junior Section raised more than £5,000.

The money will go towards the installation of new floodlights at the Club's Creedy Bridge facility.

There was great support from junior players and their parents, as well as current Crediton senior players and ex-players, that saw a total of 101 pledges up for auction on the night.

The auctioneers for the evening were Eddie Trick and Rodney Matthews, who did a fantastic job, both entertaining those present, getting all they could for each Pledge and yet somehow managing some internet bidding, expertly organised by Shane Bayley.

The top price was £500 for the Pledge from ex-player Jim Mawle, of a day's rough shooting, whilst Sam Hill's signed England Under 20's rugby shirt and a test drive in an armoured Jackal defence vehicle on the Supacat test track were also in demand.

The Floodlights are being part-funded by a grant from the Rugby Football Union.

This will provide the Rugby Club with the opportunity to host evening floodlit rugby matches, as well as expanding its training facilities to support its thriving junior section of 10 teams (including two girls teams), the Colts and three senior teams.

The next fundraiser is the popular Annual Beer Festival, this year being held on June 14, at Crediton Rugby Club.
