SANDFORD Cricket Club's international player for the coming season is Luke Wright from New Zealand.

Luke says his experiences at Sandford to date are "fantastic".

He explained: "Before coming to Devon to play cricket I did a bit of research on Sandford and found the club to have several administration awards around 'Best Club', 'Best Captain' and on my first visit to the club-rooms I saw they also had their groundsmen nominated for 'Best Groundsmen'.

So, from the other side of the world you have to think they are doing something right, both on and off the field. My decision to join the club was easy.

"Coming from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand we have the best weather in the country and arguably the best pitches and grounds.

"So the weather has hit me a bit like a smack to the face at the moment but I have been assured that Devon, as a whole, has a warmer climate than the rest of the country.

"I will be coaching at eight to 10 primary schools in the Crediton area, as well as helping out around the club in any way possible.

"So I am kept busy by everyone here! The hospitality has been tremendous and I can't thank everyone within the club enough on how welcoming they have been."

Luke has received a free courtesy car for his use during his time with Sandford Cricket Club from sponsors, Andy Dafters and Dave Worden of Crediton Car and MOT Centre.
