MARY King, from Devon, has announced her retirement from competitive eventing, after 46-years in the sport.
Mary became one of the most admired and consistent riders in eventing.
She represented Great Britain at six Olympic Games and earned team silver medals in Athens 2004 and London 2012, along with team bronze in Beijing in 2008.
Her achievements also stretched across World and European Championships, where she helped secure multiple medals for her country and cemented her place among the sport’s all-time greats.
Mary’s name is also written into the history of some of eventing’s biggest competitions. She claimed two Badminton Horse Trials titles, won Burghley, and made history in 2011 by becoming the first rider to win Kentucky with a homebred horse, King’s Temptress.
She also won four British Open Championship titles.
She first competed at five-star level aged just 24, and from that moment on became a familiar face at the biggest events on the calendar.
