A TEAM of 27 ladies from Crediton Tesco took part in the recent Race For Life at Westpoint, Exeter and raised more than £1,500.

On a gorgeously sunny Sunday afternoon the team from Tesco ran, jogged or walked the 5k course, mingling with the other 4,000 participants from all over the region.

The teams' co-ordinator, Lizzie Ferrie, said: "We are absolutely delighted with our achievement. This is the biggest team we have put together and by far the largest amount that we have raised in the three years we have been taking part.

"Several of our team have had family or friends affected by cancer, so the incentive was always there to do our best."

The impressive amount was raised through sponsorship of the individuals and from collections in-store.

Lizzie added: "I would like to thank all of the girls that took part. We had such fun on the day, both amongst ourselves and with others on the course. The atmosphere was brilliant.

"I would, especially, like to thank Carolyn Matthews and Jo Millar for giving up their own time to do the in-store collections, which helped boost the total donation we were able to provide."

The girls that took part were; Shelley Pengilly, Sophie Stocker, Janet Stocker, Shelley Snell, Rachel Theedom, Kim Tucker, Claire Harris, Allyson Greenacre, Hannah Jones, Hannah Keast, Carolyn Matthews, Lizzie Ferrie, Jess Saunders, Sarah Percival, Sue Barker, Mel Beckett, Kirsteen Watkins, Jo Millar, Emma Mitchell, Carlie Lowe, Sarah Street, Sarah Ash, Becky Lewis, Michelle Soaper, Bethany Furlonger, Sue Wreford and Haley Rice.
