MEMBERS of Crediton and District Swimming Club took part in the recent Bracknell Masters competition.
The standard at Bracknell is very high with more than 300 swimmers and up to 18 swimming per age group, per event.
The Devon crew totalled eight with the Exmouth/Tiverton/Barnstaple swimmers and the four Crediton swimmers (Darren Beer, Rob Brimacombe, Matt Hockin and Emma Power) did the club proud by coming 23rd out of 72 clubs.
There were no big expectations from this event with it being mid-season, with heavy training sessions, so it was no surprise that there were no personal best's from them, but it was encouraging to see some times close to last year's.
Emma Power won a third (100m IM), third (50m Freestyle) and an outstanding first (50m Breaststroke).
Rob Brimacombe won a third (50m Backstroke) and Darren Beer swam for a third (50m Butterfly), second (200m Freestyle) and another second (200m IM).
Besides the very good competition it was very humbling to watch a 100-year-old - yes that did read correct, 100-years-old - man destroy the European 50m Freestyle record (100yr-104yr age group) and then later in the day, to a standing ovation for a whole three-and-a-half minutes, smash the World Record in the 100m Backstroke...there is time for us all yet. What an inspiration!
