DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Seniors September medal was played on Monday, September 3 and there were some unbelievable scores with Frank Sanders stealing the show with a superb score of nett 61 to win Division One.

Jim Dunlop finished second with a great score of nett 65 while Cyril Dawes finished third with a score of nett 67.

In Division Two it was close at the top but Cedric Chapple took top spot shooting a great score of nett 67, beating Nigel Evans on a better back nine, who also scored nett 67.

It was the final of our yearly run mid-week stableford on Wednesday, September 5 and James Hutchinson finished it with style as he shot a brilliant 40 points to win the final stableford of the year.

Kevin Smith finished second as he shot 39 points while Kevin Macpherson finished third with 34 points.

Tracey Chandler took the spoils in the 10th ladies county stableford on Thursday, September 6 as she scored a brilliant 38 points to win Division One.

Doreen Warren finished second with 36 points beating Shirley Stunell on a better back nine. In Division Two it was Diane Parsons that finished in top spot with a great score of 37 points with Trish Wallis finishing in second place with 34 points.

This year’s Ray Shire Trophy was played on Saturday, September 8 and it was the team of Steven Bassett, Kevin Macpherson and Kevin Smith who took this year’s trophy as they shot a fantastic nett 57 (13 under par) to finish top.

The team of Graham Pateman, Duncan Cooper and Robin Abrahams finished second with a score of nett 58 (12 under par) and then the team of Raymond Kelly, Matt Redstone and Timothy Andrews, last year’s winners, nearly defended their title as they finished third with a great score of 58 but lost to count back to second.

Sunday, September 9 saw some of the West Countries finest Professional golfers travel to Downes Crediton to play in the Annual Pro-Am sponsored by South West Galvanizers Ltd.

On a beautiful day Kevin Harper from East Devon took victory in the Professionals Individual scoring a fine three under par 67 consisting of six birdies, nine pars and just the three bogies.

A further shot behind Harper came Tom Jessamine (Exeter Golf and Country Club) who posted a 68 to take second with the ever-green George Ryall (Worlebury GC) third scoring a one under par 69.

In the team event Will Farley (Bovey Castle) joined forces with Steve Laister, Trevor Whiteway and Mark Mytton to score an impressive 88 points to take a one point victory over Christian Vine, Gerry Hodder, John Essery and Adrian Hewitt.
