MONDAY, July 30 and Wednesday, August 1 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club Seniors play their Club Championship, a gross medal over 36 holes.
Category 1/2 winner was the ever-consistent Tom Long who put together two fine rounds of 77 + 78 for a 155 total beating Pete Russell (80+81-161) into second place.
Category 3 victory went to Pete Caston posting 84+84-164 whilst Robin Tooze scored 93+94-187 to win Category 4.
In the handicap section Category 1/2 winner was Peter Russell scoring a nett 68+69-137 whilst Category 3 victory went to Bill Dick (69+67-136) with Paul Dorothy (72+70-142) taking the honours in Category 4.
For those not taking part there was a stableford run at the same time and it was Tom Pettifer who took the spoils winning on both Monday and Wednesday with superb scores of 41 points and 36 points.
In the mid-week stableford, held on Wednesday, August 1, it was Ben Marchant who took first place scoring a superb 40 points.
The Ladies LGU Medal 9 was played on Thursday, August 2 and it was June Mitchell who took top spot and Division One with a brilliant nett 75 beating Shirley Stunell (nett 77) into second place.
In Division Two Joe Coe scored a nett 76 to beat Sue Bonner, who scored a nett 78, to finish in second place.
Last weekend saw the annual John Veale Charity Challenge event and as always it was well-supported by members, guests and sponsors and raised the fantastic sum of £2,400 for Parkinsons UK.
In the team event, a 4 player team 2 scores to count stableford, Alistair Todd, John Rance, Betty Willey and Alan Willey stole the show shooting an incredible 100 points to take the victory.
They were closely followed by Tom Pettifer, Chris Vercoe, Rick Eidam and Laurence Taylor who scored 98 points to finish second whilst Joe Hull, Stephen Cross, Adrian Cram and Shaun Cross finished third with a great score of 97 points.
With this being John Veale’s last time for organising his Charity Challenge at the presentation, following the golf he was thanked for all the tireless work he has put in over the last 12 years and all the money he has raised for the “Captains Charity” over those years. Thank you John.
