WITH the course in tremendous condition, last week saw Downes Crediton Festival Week continue with hundreds of members and visitors competing in events throughout the week.

On Monday, September 4 Downes members filled the top three spots in the Seniors Open with the pair of Rick Eidam and Ian Pring taking the victory scoring an impressive 45 points.

Frank Sanders and Graham Jones finished second posting 44 points with Peter Johnson and John Wigginton (43 pts) in third beating three other pairs with a better back nine.

The leading visiting pair was Chris Rodgers and Dave Taylor from Hoebridge and Cricket St Thomas with 42 points.

The Commerce Cup on Tuesday, September 5, competed for by local businesses, saw the home members of Steve Knight, Paul Furzer and Chris Hart from Exeter Golf and Country Club take the win with a very impressive score of 84 points.

They were followed by the team of Jon Cornish Financial Services with a very good score of 80 points.

Jim Hutchison won the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, September 6 with 38 points beating Mike Allen (37 pts) into second place.

A tough challenge for the home and away ladies on Thursday, September 7 as we held our Ladies Open. The winners of the day were the team of home members, Liz Mapson and Rickie Pawsey, and their playing partner Julia Young with a great score of 68.

Following close behind with a score of 69 were the team from Bude of Collette Burgress, Kathy Cheeseman and Jean Reed.

We got away with the weather on Friday, September 8 for our Three Player Texas Scramble Open which saw some brilliant scores come in but the team of Tom Long, James Stagg and Penny Long took top spot with a score of 62.

Second place was the team of Jon Cornish, Kate Cornish and William Loughton with the score of 64 and coming third with 66 was the team of Shaun Moore, Graham Browne and John Warren.

Mark Cummins took the spoils for this year in the Creedy Cup Individual Open played on Saturday, September 9 with a fantastic score of 37 points and winning the scratch prize with score of 30 points was Matthew Morgan from Pontnewydd Golf Club.

The best home player was Andy Frankum with 35 points and the best away player with 33 points was Chris Hagger from Fingle Glen.

Sunday, September 10 saw Downes Crediton host its annual Pro-Am sponsored by South West Galvanizers Ltd.

With professionals and amateurs from across the South West competing, Exeter Pro Tom Jessamine won the Professionals individual title scoring an impressive three under par 67 in blustery conditions.

Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew) took second place posting a 68 with Mike Watson (Weymouth) and Jon Bevan (Sherborne) tied third with 71’s.

The team event saw the home trio of Mike Delling, Dan Knight and Matt Dyne join forces with Newquay Pro Chris Gill to score a wonderful 89 points to take fine victory.

Second place went to Exeter members Simon Carter, Mark Dunsford and Lance Downes alongside an East Devon Professional with an 85 point total.
