FESTIVAL Week at Downes Crediton Golf Club included all the usual competitions, plus many other events that involved members from other clubs and the wider community.

Last Sunday it was the Chandler Generation Challenge, a competition which involves family members of different generations playing together. The event is a Pairs Foursomes Stableford competition. The winners were Jamie Wright and his son Arthur, with 42 points. It was Arthur’s first competitive 18 holes.

Also on Sunday, East Devon Golf League held their first “Dartington Cup” at Downes. Six teams of eight players, from different clubs took part.

A great day was had by all. The final result was 1 Crediton 159, 2 Honiton 156, 3 Axe Cliff 154, 4 Exeter 152, 5 Bovey Tracey 140 and 6 Exminster 130.

Monday's Seniors Open saw a full field and glorious weather. It was good to see so many visiting golfers from other clubs.

Congratulations to the winning pair of Kevin Nicholls (DCGC) and John Pollard (@thewarrengolfclub), coming top with 45 points.

John Wilson and Richard Wilson (Fingle Glen) came second with 44 points, with DCGC's Richard Lloyd and Clive Edmunds third with 43 points.

On Tuesday it was Ladies Open, the format being a three player Texas Scramble. Another sunny day, with ladies from a number of other Devon clubs taking part. The winners were the team of Sue Jackson, Dot Kenneth and Jane Rickman with a score of 60.

Wednesday saw the usual club weekly Stableford. A good number of members took part in this, and the event was won by Jon Bristowe with 40 points.

Thursday the main event was The Commerce Cup. It was the first time we've run this event (Texas Scramble for local businesses) in many years, and it was great to see a full field enjoying themselves. It looks like this will be a staple of future Festival Weeks.

Congratulations to Jas Cars for winning the Cup with a magnificent 51 points. The team of Market Harborough Building Society and Cornerstone Commercial Finance came second with 54 points. Many thanks to all the other teams for entering and those who helped the day run smoothly.

The teams which took part included: PFK Francis Clark, Michelmores, RSK Hi Line, Exeter Finance, Cameron Jones Financial Management, DM Malins, Handelsbanken, Jack Gear Financial, Together Financial and Stalite Signs. The ever-helpful DCGC ladies; Fran Shrubsole, Lyn Parry and Rebecca Aven stepped up once again and made the event run super smoothly. Also thanks to Mike Thurston for serving up a gorgeous curry.

Friday’s afternoon event was another shotgun start for a three player Texas Scramble. Another large field of almost 70 players, saw a winning score of 56 for the team of Steven Channon, Owen Evans and Stephen Kent.

On to Saturday, where another large field of almost 80 players took part in an individual medal competition for The Creedy Cup.

The winner, with an excellent 64 was Gary Spragg.

Sunday, and final event of Festival Week was the Mixed Team Open. Again there was a large field, playing in teams of four with one lady and one mans score to count. The winners were Di Parsons, Philip Beasley, Lyn Playford and Stephen Yates, with a terrific 89 points.
