DOWNES Crediton Golf Club is lucky to have the services of two golf professionals, and near the end of last year Ollie Greenslade wrote about how he became involved in the game.
This time it the turn of our other professional, Joe Jordan. Here’s what Joe wrote, in his words.
“I started playing golf at 11 years of age at Ilfracombe Golf Club. Although I wasn’t the best when I began, my enthusiasm grew steadily.
“When I left school at 16, I started working in the pro shop, which meant I had to practice relentlessly to reach a standard where I could consider turning professional.
“The experience in the shop not only improved my game but also gave me insight into the workings of a golf club.
“I began my PGA training at the age of 20 and qualified at 23, marking a significant milestone in my golfing career.
“The following year, I accepted my first Head Professional position at Holsworthy Golf Club, where I spent a rewarding decade before moving on to Crediton.
“These days, I don’t get much opportunity to play myself, as the shop and club are always busy.
“My time is devoted to looking after our members and visitors, as well as coaching those eager to improve their skills. Crediton is a wonderfully friendly and sociable club, where the sense of community is evident in every interaction.
“It’s a pleasure to contribute to such a welcoming environment, even if it means my own game takes a back seat.”
Joe is a great support to members and visitors alike. We very much appreciate his contribution to Downes Golf Club.
To finish this week’s article, it is a real joy to report last Saturday’s competition. A field of 120 took part. A very positive sign for the coming season.
