DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Captains Charity Day competition was held on Saturday, September 27.
The charity was Saint Lukes Hospice, and by the end of the day more than £600 had been raised as a donation to this very commendable charity.
A large field of 96 players took part in the event and the winners, with a magnificent score of 98, were the team of Steve Whyte, Tristan Kershaw, Philip and Jordan Dyer.
On Monday, the Seniors held their last medal of the season, which incorporated the Champions Trophy.
Jerome Davis won the October Medal with a score of 66, and Peter Johnson, also with 66, won the Champions Trophy.
This was also the final event of the year to determine the Senior Golfer of the Year. The winner was Andy Frankum.
Tuesday, September 30, was the chosen date for the club AGM.
This was preceded by a nine hole AGM competition, followed by some excellent food provided by our kitchen staff.
The participants of the nine hole competition thoroughly enjoyed themselves, in particular Lyn Parry who skilfully, or more likely fortunately, achieved a hole in one. Well done to you Lyn, and we believe the drinks were on you!
There were several well-deserved votes of thanks at the AGM.

Our retiring President Jim Enright, who had also served as Chairman for several years ,was thanked for his huge enthusiasm and dedication and service to the club.
We hope he can now thoroughly enjoy his golf without the burden of office!
Another huge and deserved vote thanks was given to our Grounds Staff. They have worked so hard this year, and anyone who has played the course can see the results of their efforts.
There have been so many complementary comments about the course from members and visitors alike.
Moving away from the many competitions at Downes, we thought this week we should include a report on the South West Women’s Inter-Counties Finals.
For this competition, the six South West counties play in two groups.
A round robin was held between Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and the other between Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
The winner of each group meets in the final, which was held at Tiverton Golf Club on Sunday, September 28.
The final was a very close and exciting match. With the overall score locked at 4-4, all eyes turned to Tracey Chandler, a long time member of Downes Golf Club.
Tracey was one down playing the 18th, but held her nerve to square the match and force extra holes.
On the 19th, she sent a superb drive down the middle, followed by a brilliant approach to within four feet. When her Somerset opponent couldn’t recover, the hole was conceded, securing Devon a famous victory and back-to-back titles! Well done Tracey.

Meanwhile, back at Downes the usual weekly competitions continued.
The midweek Stapleford was one by Colin Stamp with a score of 41pts and in the Thursday nine hole Stapleford John Smale came in with 23pts.
The Ladies medal on Thursday was for the Mapledoram Cup.
For the second time this week, Lyn Parry was mentioned in dispatches, winning the competition with a score of 71.
There was also a ladies friendly match against Woodbury, where the Downes ladies had a handsome win.
