AS usual it has been another busy week at Downes Golf Club. As well as casual golf there is a competition on almost every day of the week.

The Seniors have competitions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Ladies play competitively on Tuesdays and Thursday and the various club competitions are on Wednesdays, Thursday evenings and Saturdays. There are usually events on Sundays as well.

There are also matches against other clubs, both home and away.

There have been a number of Dartmoor League matches. Recent results recorded were a win against Yelverton 3½ to1½ and a win against Thurlestone 3–2.

The Dartmoor League team is currently top of the league. The Palairet team missed out on the main draw this year, however they have reached the Plate Final, which takes place on Sunday, July 5 at Stover.

In a recent article we mentioned this year’s Club Captain, Gerald Abdoll, had nominated Force as his charity of the year.

As well as raising funds on his Captains Day and by donations etc, this year Gerald entered the Nello Cycle Event.

The Force Cancer Charity's annual Nello cycle ride is always on the final Sunday in June. The start and finish is at Topsham Rugby Club, with the choice of 60 or 100 mile routes.

It is not a timed competition, but a fantastic annual charity ride that has raised nearly £1.3 million. This year over 1,300 riders took part.

Gerald took on the 60 mile course riding for 5 hours and 4 minutes. Gerald said it was difficult to specify how much money he collected for the Nello ride because all the money for the charity went through one QR code. However the total money raised so far this year for Force is already thousands of pounds.
