A CROLF Tournament, in aid of ABF The Soldiers Charity, was held in the gardens at Downes House in Crediton on July 17 by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Henry Parker.
The day was a great success with teams coming from all parts of Devon to compete in this family, fun-orientated game which is a cross between golf and croquet.
Given the heat, there was a plentiful supply of cool Pimms and lemonade for the competitors.
An abundant liquid intake on the day was essential and funnily enough the more Pimms, the better the scores!
Following the tournament, the competitors sought out shaded areas of the wonderful gardens at Downes House where cream teas were served.
Grateful thanks go to Robbie Richardson, inventor of the game of Carwithens Crolf, who kindly loaned and set up the interesting course in the grounds.
Thanks also go to Andrew Drayton, Community Champion at Tesco, for supplying fresh clotted cream, strawberry jam, milk, tea and sugar, Nessie’s Bistro and Delicatessen for donating the freshly-made scones and Hazel Evely, Community Champion at Morrisons for supplying lemonade, strawberries, cucumbers, oranges for the Pimms and finally not forgetting Darren and Eva Tate and all the teams.
The winning team were Ugbrooke Park and runners-up were the Redvers Team (from Downes House).
The total amount raised for the charity has not been finalised, but organisers are looking at a total of more than £600 including some generous donations.
