DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Seniors played an individual stableford on Monday, June 20, which saw Ian Pring top Division One scoring 38 points, one clear of second placed Paul Fricker (37pts).

In Division Two David Moss took the victory posting 42 and was followed by Cedric Chapple (40pts) in second.

There was also the Albert Midsummers Cup to play for and the three quarters handicap format saw Ian Pring post 34 points to win.

Simon March was in fine form on Wednesday, June 22 when he scored 40 points to win the Midweek Stableford with Scott Peters second with 39pts.

Fours players scored 20 points in this week in the Nine-Hole Stableford on Thursday, June 23, but it was Russell Cram who took the win by virtue of a better back six holes.

The weekend of Saturday 25 and Sunday June 26, saw Downes Crediton ladies, men and juniors play their respective Club Championships and with a strong turnout and the course in superb condition it was a great two days.

In the ladies section Tracey Chandler became the Club Champion for the eighth time posting scores of 81 and 83 to beat Rebecca Aven into second.

The Handicap Championship was a closely fought affair as Sue Jackson overturned a four-shot deficit in the second round to score 71 and 75 a total of 146 to take a one stroke victory, once again, over runner-up Rebecca Aven.

The Men’s Championship was a closely fought battle as Martin Garnsey, Rodin Mackay, Jordan Dyer and Adam Hull all went into the final nine holes covered by just two strokes.

A superb back nine of just 33 stokes on route to a one under par 69 though saw Adam Hull (77 and 69 a total of 146) take control and eventually win by the comfortable margin of five shots from Martin Garnsey (74 and 77 a total of 151).

The Buller Bowl (Handicap Champion) was another close call as Downes Junior Captain, Tom Grinney produced a wonderful first round nett 61 with a solid second round nett 72 to take a one-shot victory over Jordan Dyer (64 and 70 a total of 134).

The first round nett 61 from Tom Grinney rounded off a tremendous weekend for the 16-year-old as he retained his Junior Club Championship title.
