ABBY Turner, a member of Okehampton Golf Club, won through a weekend of competition at East Devon Golf Club to become Devon Women’s County Champion for the second time.

On Saturday, September 25, after 27 holes of scratch golf, Abby was through to the semi-finals the following day.

Abby beat Emily Morey (East Devon) in the morning to progress to the final against Lauren McGinnis (Churston).

After a nail biting final, with her fellow Okehampton members waiting back at the club following the scores on the internet, Abby won the Championship three and two.

Lady Captain Jane Warren said: “The club is very proud of Abby, she is an inspiration to us all and works so hard to perfect her game.”

Abby has been a member of the Devon County first team since 2012 and she was also County Champion in 2014.

Prior to moving to Devon, Abby was a member of the Worcestershire Junior County team.

Despite working full time and being a mother to 11-year-old Harry, Abby is still able to keep the Okehampton Golf Club flag flying by playing championship golf.

Golf within the ladies’ section of Okehampton is at an all time high in their Centenary year.

Francis Harbron also played in the County Championships and narrowly missed out on playing in the final day.

The section would welcome any new ladies who would like to join, both beginners or more experienced players.
