EXETER and Tedburn Rangers women’s football team play their first SSE Women’s FA Cup Qualifying match at Barley Park, Tedburn St Mary, on Sunday, August 26, at 2pm.
Their opponents will be a strong Forest Green Rovers team who play in the South West Women’s Premier League and who will represent difficult opponents.
Exeter and Tedburn Rangers, whose main sponsor is the King’s Arms, Tedburn St Mary, rose to South West Women’s Regional League status a few seasons ago, and consists principally of young up and coming players developed from youth football.
Although the majority of the team remain young, this match represents an ideal opportunity for the players to experience the competitiveness of the game at this level.
The team continue to struggle finding an experienced goalkeeper, having been playing an outfield player "between the sticks" for the last two seasons.
We hope games such as this will inspire more local young players to not only take up the game (in all positions), but do so with Exeter and Tedburn Rangers.
Match day refreshments including hot and cold food and drinks will be available as normal on the match-day, and we hope many interested people will include this match in their Bank-Holiday schedule. Matchday sponsor will be Nick Cann Pest Control Ltd, based in Crediton.
Car parking is available at the ground.
• Tedburn St Mary Football Club was recently awarded a #RetaintheGame grant from the FA and the Football Foundation.
This money, £750, will help us secure the long-term future of our football club with the provision of new goals for our main-pitch at Barley Park, Tedburn St Mary.
As the season approaches, both our senior men’s teams, who play in Division Three and Eight respectively of the Devon and Exeter League, and our Women’s team, are keen to attract more players of all standards.
