CREDITON UNITED 1 - UNIVERSITY OF EXETER 1

CREDITON kept their unbeaten run going with this hard fought draw against the students at Lords Meadow on Saturday setting them up nicely for the trip to Torridgeside on Saturday in the FA Vase.

An amusing pre match incident occurred as Uni had not sent the squad names for the programme and our local wag and chairman Rod Hawker substituted the entire lot with ubiquitous names such as Phil Ospher, Master Ofart and Emm Phil. Well done Rod.

Crediton were largely unchanged and from the start it was the students who looked more likely, only a tremendous save from keeper Lewis Slade stopped them from taking a first minute lead.

Tarim Gasmi curled a hopeful effort just round the post and then flashed a header just past but in the main it was the University who looked more likely.

Half time went by and the teams could not be separated. Despite a battling effort from both sides the score was goalless.

The whole aspect changed as captain Jack Perry fired a tremendous effort which came back off the crossbar and said bar had not stopped shaking as University raced to the other end and scored. On 63 minutes the score was 0-1.

It could have been two but for a terrific goal line clearance from Louis Garnsworthy.

Subs were made and Crediton went up a gear searching for the equaliser. It duly came with five minutes left as a corner from the right was scrambled home by Brad Butterfield making the score 1-1.

Full back Ryley Gething got himself sent off just before the close.

Jake Shaw made a huge difference when he came on with his pace and skill.

Another point for Crediton and we now have four away matches before returning to the Meadow for the visit of Middlezoy on October 3.
