EXETER UNITED 0 - SPREYTON 3
SPREYTON came out racing in the game against Exeter United on Saturday, November 25 and within five minutes Chris Down had the ball in the back of the net.
However, it was called offside and the goal was disallowed. Five minutes later the ball broke free again for Spreyton and Matt Baker played a through ball into Chris Down who went down inside the box.
The referee gave a penalty then changed the decision to a free kick once deliberating with the Exeter United linesman.
However the deadlock was finally broken on 20 minutes with a lovely cross from Koehan King just for Liam Ward to flick home to go 1-0 up. Once the goal went in both sides were coming with chances.
Just before the break Exeter United shot on the edge of the box and the ball was going in the top right-hand corner just for Chris Gunn-Hawking to pull off a blinding save and tip off round the post for Spreyton to go in at half-time 1-0 up.
Five minutes into the second half the work horse Liam Ward played a tremendous ball into Matt Baker in behind the defenders for Matt to finish first time into the back of the net for Spreyton to go 2-0 up.
After the goal went in Exeter United kept pressing and whilst they were pressing for a period of time Spreyton’s front three of Baker, Down and Pow were ready to pounce at the first sniff of any break.
This paid off with 20 minutes to go when Down played a ball from the half-way line onto Cameron Pow on the right-hand side of the box for him to run into the box and pass unselfishly to Matt Baker to complete the days scoring and get his brace.
The side has made massive improvements over the past few weeks and the manager Mark Baitup is delighted to pick up three points away from home!
Man of the Match for Spreyton was Liam Ward.
Spreyton are back at home on Saturday, December 2, in the quarter final of the Geary Cup against Kenn Valley United. Kick off is at 1.15pm.
The last time the two sides met Chris Down blew away the scoresheet scoring five and grabbing an 8-1 win.
