SANDFORD Cricket Club has again been granted another Minor Counties Championship game at Creedy Park this season, following the success of last year’s match.

The match will be held on July 3, 4 and 5 with all three days play due to start at 11am. The visitors to Devon this year will be near neighbours, Wiltshire.

The Club did exceedingly well in ensuring last season’s match was not only an enjoyable spectacle for players and committee members of Devon and Wales, but also for the numerous spectators who went to Creedy Park to watch all three days play, many for the first time. These included a number of "ground –hoppers" (cricket fans who go to watch the first day’s play, or more, at any new Minor Counties venue throughout the Country).

Last year the Club put on an all-day barbecue, which was run by members of Sandford Football Club who have agreed to run something similar this year. The Cricket Club are very grateful for their support, and this close association has been enhanced by the Football Club entering a team in the Cricket Club’s Community Cricket League for the first time last year, and again this year.

One of the Club’s new sponsors, The Crediton Coffee Company has agreed to be in attendance at the County game to provide an additional facility for spectators, players and officials during all three days of the Minor Counties match in July.

The Community League has now been running for five years, and the Club is very grateful to Sue Sparham for providing the eventual winners with a perpetual Trophy, which she has donated to the Club in memory of her late husband, Barrie. Barrie was not only a former sponsor of the Club, but also a former playing member when the couple first moved to down to Devon in the mid 1970’s.

The first few matches of this year’s competition have already been played, with the next games due on May 24 and 31.
