DEAN Forge, Devon stove and garden accessories manufacturer based in Buckfastleigh and Exeter, is getting behind Crediton football team Adams Athletic FC in time for an away fixture in June.

Sponsorship by Dean Forge Ltd has enabled the team to receive much needed kit, not only for the international but also for the forthcoming football season starting in September.

Adams Athletic FC will be joining German side Fulda and Dutch side Dokkum to compete for the highly prized St Boniface Cup.

Engraving on the cup dates back to 2005, noting that Germany have triumphed no less than seven times, while Dokkum and Crediton have each won twice in the annual competition.

Adams Athletic are hoping to repeat last year’s success in the Cup with another win.

Pat Ranger from Dean Forge says: “We are delighted to be able to support sport in the local community, enabling Adams Athletic FC to play in this fun but hard-fought competition. We hope the team can follow up last year’s home win and return victorious over Germany and Holland once more with the St Boniface Cup.”

The competition came about when, a number of years ago, Bob Edwards, former Mayor of Crediton, set about renewing the connection between Crediton, the place where St Boniface is believed to have been born, Fulda in Germany, where he helped found the Abbey, and Dokkum in Holland, where he met an untimely death at the hands of a group of armed robbers.

Adams Athletic FC play at the King George V playing fields in Exeter and in Division Two of the Exeter Sunday League.
