CREDITON Youth Under 15s are doing their bit to help the Marcus Rashford Campaign.

Coach Dave José Hughes had another bright idea – the boy’s got brains as well as “brawn”.

He posted the following on Facebook and sent a message to the squad asking to help if members are able:

“...for those of you who don’t know, I have the pleasure of managing and coaching this wonderful bunch of lads (The Crediton Under 15s Football Team) with David, Darren and Steve – all four of us have sons in the team and at the start of lockdown we got together (remotely) and put a video together with the help from my life long buddy, Rob at Helmores estate agents and raised more than £1,000 for the local NHS.

“The news seems to be full of sad news about children in the UK starving and families struggling due to the current circumstances beyond their control and through no fault of their own.

“I put a message out there today to the players and parents that when our next training session resumes on November 3, would it be possible for each child to bring two items of food (UHT milk, jam, beans, rice etc) so we can donate to the local food bank and the response has been amazing.

“Why am I telling you all, well firstly because I am really proud of their team and their parents and secondly if any of my friends or family out there on Facebook want to assist and donate then please come down tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3 between 6.30pm and 7.30pm to Lords Meadow Astro, Crediton and pop anything you can spare into our box.

“I fully understand if you don’t want to or can’t, but thought I’d ask...”  Dave Hughes, Coach, Under 15s.

We are extending this request to anyone in our amazing wider community.

If you are able to donate any items, either pass them to any of the squad you may know, or pop it into our collection box tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
