TEIGNMOUTH 0 - CREDITON UNITED 2
CREDITON took the spoils in this lively encounter at Combe Valley despite what appeared to be a seriously depleted side.
Lacking Dave Lee, Kevin Pike and Lukey White and other senior players they contrived to win and move up to 6th in the table despite the efforts of the Teignmouth lads.
The young players in the side rose to the occasion and are starting to look like they are not only up for the fight but quite capable in succeeding.
With Steve Goss and Bradley Butterfield imperious at the back and repelling all that was thrown at them, the lads held on to their lead despite defending for long periods.
Crediton opened the scoring after only 10 minutes as Finn Drew's side footer perfectly placed beyond the Teignmouth goalie and dribbled into the net, 0-1. Teignmouth proceeded to dominate and if it were not for the sterling efforts of young Lewis Layton in goal surely the home side would be back on terms. But it was not to be and just before half time Isaac Littlejohns made it two, firing home from the edge of the box after a corner on the left, 0-2.
This galvanised the home side after the break and time after time they surged forward only to find the Crediton defence in great form.
As the lads began to tire, they still found extra energy and stopped the Teigns from coming back into it.
I am starting to run out of words to describe what a good goalie Lewis Layton is but for one so young he is proving invaluable to the side.
Towards the end of the match young striker Amorinde, playing an unfamiliar role at centre forward was through on goal but shot wide when it looked as though he might score.
Having said that he held the ball up well throughout and made an invaluable contribution. But not to worry because the Crediton boys saw the game out and were worthy winners at the end.
