SIDMOUTH TOWN 1 - CREDITON 3
CREDITON travelled down to the immaculate Manstone Lane on Thursday, April 21, to face Sidmouth just 48 hours after the humbling at home to Appledore.
Creddy travelled with just the bare 11. The small pitch seemed to suit us early doors, being able to pass the ball well and finding good areas when required.
The first chance of the game led to the first goal a Dan McCann strike was saved by Alex Bowring but Emlyn Harris was on-hand to tap home from 10 yards on 10 minutes, to score his first goal in a long, long time.
As the game progressed we looked more and more comfortable and doubled the lead on 21 minutes when a long kick forward was flicked on by Durrant, and McCann was on-hand to slot home to give the scoreline a glossy look.
The home manager showed his ruthless streak by making two substitutions immediately after (he also did so when we won 5-0 at home earlier in the season) and this did see Sidmouth improve. They had their only effort on target on 32 minutes but Jamie Orchards’ strike was comfortably saved.
Crediton knew coming out for the second half this was a great chance for the three points and even a rare clean sheet. This was spoiled in the 65th minute when a driven pull-back from the by-line was volleyed home by Orchard from six yards.
Immediately after a Jamie Parsons header travelled 10 yards and clearly struck the hand of a Sidmouth defender but the referee waved play on.
However, Creddy sealed the game on 72 minutes with a low strike into the bottom corner from Richard Blake who notched his 21st league goal in the process - fairplay to the old warrior, a good achievement in anyones book!
The last chance of the game came on 80 minutes, after a trip from Parsons on Sidmouth’s lightning quick Cameron Vere. the referee pointed to the spot. However Ben Farringdon’s powerful penalty was well-tipped around the post by Keast, who has faced three penalties this mid-week and conceded from none of them.
This saw Crediton gain a much need three points and an excellent performance from Danny Harvey in the middle of the park and from man of the match Dan McCann.
Nathan Keast
