BOVEY TRACEY 2 - CREDITON UNITED 1

In a game dominated by strong gusts of wind, Crediton came close to taking home at least a point with this narrow defeat at league leaders Bovey who extended their lead at the top of the league.

Crediton’s young side were not overwhelmed and although the home side came out of the blocks, there was little danger to Lewis Laytons goal during the first half.

With Steve Goss playing in an unfamiliar midfield role alongside Dave Lee, the back four were in good form and repelled everything Bovey hit at them.

With Tom Maynard and Bradley Butterfield beginning to build a solid partnership at the back, Crediton are becoming hard to beat.

When the sides went in at halftime scoreless it was clear that Crediton had matched the home team and deserved to be level.

In the second half the wind did not let up and considering how dominant Bovey had been this season they still pressed without success until the hour mark when they took the lead through Josh Webber.

A cross from the right eluded Crediton defenders and was met at the far post with Lewis Layton having no chance, 1-0 to the home side.

Crediton levelled within two minutes after the ball had bobbled around the Bovey goal and it was met by young Collier who sent a firm drive past the goalie, 1-1.

The game had barely restarted when another ball from the left back position found the experienced substitute Levi Landricombe and his clinical finish gave Bovey the lead, 2-1.

Crediton’s young side were competitive and deserved the close scoreline but in the end Bovey were just too strong.

They largely played long ball football and were regularly haranguing the young referee who to his credit had none of it and had a good game.
