TWO new First Team managers have taken up the reins from Matt Trenaman at Crediton United Football Club.

Ben Watson and Jack Furzer are the pair who manage the Firsts, both coming from Exeter where they could not find the facilities they wanted.

Crediton plays in a floodlit league which no team does in Exeter. They wanted to progress in management but were limited in Exeter. With Crediton they found what they were looking for, sharing the same values as theirs.

Ben (36), represented England in the National XI squad for the Four Nations Tournament in 2006.

Over his 18-year career in football, he has played for Exeter City, Brighton, Bognor Regis, Gray’s Athletic, Forest Green Rovers, Bath City, Eastbourne, Dorchester Town, Truro City, Bideford and, locally, St Martin’s and Topsham. He still plays.

Both Ben and Jack are married, both live in Exeter and both were managers at Topsham for two years.

Jack Furzer was with Exeter City Under 8s to U16s then Exeter City Academy. He was then offered an apprenticeship with Exeter City which ended when he was 18 and he went professional for two years with Exeter.

During that time he went on loan to Bideford and when he was released at the age of 20, he signed full-time with Bideford, playing for them for five years. Aged 30, he has not played for five years.

When he was 25, Jack took over managing St Martin’s in Exeter, winning their League. Then came Topsham.

Crediton play in the South West Peninsula East, feeling honoured to have the first fixture of the new season being played at Crediton on Friday evening against Newton Abbot Spurs.
