BRIXHAM UNITED 2

CREDITON UNITED 4

A CONVINCING performance from Crediton as they scored four away at Brixham last Saturday and continued their fine form against the seasiders.

With Dan McCann playing in his first game for Kirton, having come from Sidbury, added a sense of solidity to the burgeoning midfield of Lee and Durrant. The lads were quite a force to be reckoned with and although the majority of the first half was dominated by Brixham and their poor finishing in front of goal, there was no denying the application of the away side.

After only two minutes some fine interplay on the right side ended in Steve Morish side-footing the ball past the Brixham goalie to make it 0-1.

Crediton continued to press and looked dangerous in front of goal.

Playing with the wind did not seem to be much of an advantage but the slope did seem to cause more problems.

It was then that Brixham started to get their act together and they soon equalised through Reece after a free kick on the left was finished off with a header.

Time after time, largely due to Crediton playing a very high line, Brixham found themselves able to find a way over the top and the experienced Dan Rankin, in particular, was guilty of several chances wasted.

Just as the half was coming to an end Crediton sprang into life with firstly a Richard Blake special which ended up in the Brixham net via the post making it 1-2.

Then it was Simon Durrant who shot home a minute later from round about the six-yard box who made it 1-3.

It flattered the away side who had been under the cosh for the last 20-or-so minutes.

The second half was very evenly spread and both teams played some neat football considering the wintry conditions.

Crediton, in particular, swept forward with Craig Skinner, performing well at full-back, and new boy Dan McCann, inspired in midfield.

With Simon Durrant getting stronger as the game progressed and becoming a major influence as time went on, there was no way that Crediton would not be successful.

Then, with about 15 minutes left, a glancing header put Brixham back in the hunt bringing it to 2-3.

Almost immediately Crediton hit back with the goal of the game as a back heel from Durrant found McCann who had made a fine run on the overlap.

His cross found Blakey who headed firmly past the ‘keeper to make it 2-4.

This effectively finished off Brixham and Crediton might have had one or two more as the game came to a close.

A mention, too, for Emlyn Harris, who worked tirelessly up front until substituted late in the game.

Another good result for the Crediton lads who now find themselves firmly in mid-table and looking upwards as we come into the winter months.
