AMORY GREEN 0 - SPREYTON 4
SPREYTON FC’s away game against Amory Green First Eleven on Saturday, February 23 was yet another feisty affair with another two red cards being shown, one for each side seeing both captains leave the field.
When these two sides meet it’s always a tough and physical game, Saturday was no exception! Credit to Matt Mitchell with himself and Tim Cockman both doing their best to keep their sides level-headed.
Both managers wanted their sides to put on a decent display of football with both sides having some real great moments and Amory very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Always one of Spreyton’s toughest fixtures.
Ko King was suspended for this game but did a great job as the gaffers No 2 giving some great feedback and ideas during the game and helping to fire the players up with inspirational words.
So many great individual and collective performances that everybody deserves a mention.
Jordan Rowe keeping yet another clean sheet, showing a masterclass of how to play the sweeper ‘keeper role to great effect. His kicking was unreal with pin point accuracy picking out his strikers, faultless display.
Ben Angel aka Tripps put in one hell of a shift carrying on from where he left off after last weeks MOTM performance. He really nailed his position by being one of the first names on the team sheet. From last man tackles to having three or four shots, the workrate of the guy is in a different class.
James Turner really has established himself as a real gritty determined player and today there was nothing getting past him. Great discipline and great awareness in reading the ball and timing his challenges. A real cool head to have in the side.
Will Hawking was a rock as usual, commanding his back line and winning every header. Unfortunate not to score after connecting with his head on a couple of corners. Very unlucky to pick up two yellow cards resulting in an early bath in the second half. Our captain will be sorely missed next week for sure.
Lee Coleman played as a CB after last week’s debut as a CDM. A hell of a signing who really came into his own after Hawks’ red card, showing exceptional leadership qualities and bossing the back line in only his second game with lads he’s just getting to know! A versatile player who has won everybody over already.
Quinton Smith, after having signed back on for the Sprey’s this week, was thrusted straight into the side and showed exactly why the gaffer made the tough decision. A great shift up and down the flank getting on the ball often and delivering lots of quality crosses. Another great addition to the side who has been welcomed back with open arms.
Steve Kinsey as usual put in a masterclass display pulling the strings in midfield. Only two minutes into the game he had bagged himself an assist after tackling on the edge of his own area! Another one unlucky not to find the back of the net today but an all-round excellent performance from the vice captain.
Matt Burt played his first full 90 minutes for the Sprey’s and really looked like he had turned back the clocks with a solid performance in the middle of the field. A real general winning everything and using great vision to play some superb balls. He brought a different dynamic to the Sprey’s midfield. Very pleased to have persuaded him to sign for the side.
Owen Gregory was up to his usual tricks with an awesome diagonal cross for an assist and a 45-yard belter lobbing the ‘keeper and leaving everybody stunned. For 17 years of age he plays like a seasoned adult. A real asset to the side who will no doubt go onto bigger things but for now he’s a fully -ommitted Sprey!
Cam Pow was unplayable charging his way through player after player and bagging himself two cracking goals in the process. Today saw him dropping into pockets of space and being a real nuisance to the opposition. A big player who always makes a big impact in every game he plays.
Chris Down was influential as usual playing off the last man one minute to then dropping into midfield making things happen the next. The vision and footballing brain is second to none let alone the lad’s finishing abilities. Chris found himself on the scoresheet yet again!
Sam Hawkey came on for Quinton in the second half and didn’t put a foot wrong, sitting tight to his man giving no breathing space. Another great addition who is now finding his feet in the side. Sam has been patient waiting for his chances and has made a real impression on the last two occasions.
Greg Jolly was very unfortunate not to get a start but showed a great attitude waiting for his time to shine. Coming on as a sub for Ben Angel in the second half Greg had some great moments playing some killer balls and being denied a goal by a good save from the ‘keeper not to mention his defensive duties. A really good effort from a player eagerly looking for a start.
Man Of The Match was shared between Lee Coleman and Matt Burt with both lads being real leaders, both taking the game by the scruff of the neck and showing great attitudes during flare up moments between the two sides.
Another three points for the Sprey’s and the goal difference at the top of the table reduced so this performance was an all-round success.
The fixture tomorrow, Saturday, March 2 see Spreyton host Exeter University.
