NEWTON St Cyres Football Club recently received its new away strip thanks to new sponsors RJ Brooks and Son, based in Mid Devon. Bob Brooks was on-hand to present the new kit to First Team manager Nathan Guppy and player Fin Jeffery on a sunny evening at the Rec.

RJ Brooks and Son is a local family run contractor and developer specialising in a wide range of construction activities including civil engineering, road construction and ground works since the company started in 1993.
The First team competed in the kit for the first time against Upottery in Division One of the Devon and Exeter Football League, but sitting bottom of the Division, a win was required from one of the final two matches to secure safety.
Upottery were looking to secure the runners-up spot so a one-all draw was perhaps a good point to take away from the game.
In the end, it came down to the final game of the season against Exeter University.
A win was all that could save Cyres from the drop.
Unfortunately, Cyres went behind in the first half, but a rallying half-time team talk saw an improved second half performance and two goals turned around the result in Cyres favour, three points and safety achieved.
The club is planning its annual five-a side tournament to be held on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9, at the Recreation Ground, Newton St Cyres, which will have more than 130 sides booked in from across the South West.
The club is always keen to involve local businesses.
