A NUMBER of supporters welcomed a group of cyclists, from the Crediton area, who cycled 930 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for Exeter charity Rainbow Living, when they stopped off at Crediton Town Square for refreshments provided by the Crediton Coffee Company.

The event was organised by Curly Wright (fundraiser) has so far raised more than £5,100 for Rainbow Living, a charity which provides housing and support for people with disabilities.

Curly welcomed everyone to the town square and thanked them all for their hard work and support. Crediton Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch, said everyone did a fantastic job raising money for such a worthy charity.

The cyclists, Dr James Hayter (Cheriton Bishop Doctors’ Surgery), Terry Windeatt (retired police officer), Tony Pinniger (Rainbow Living Trustee), Shirley French (retired nurse), Trudy Loveday (fundraiser), Dick Scagell (retired police officer), and Leuan Lovett (website builder) started the 10-day charity cycle on Tuesday, September 18 at John O’Groats and finished at Lands End.

The group were joined by Mickie, a resident of Rainbow Living and the director, Clive, who cycled from Crediton to Okehampton on a tandem where a garden reception was held at The Kings Arms.

Curly said: “I’ve known about Rainbow Living for a few years now and am so impressed by the work the charity does.

"It’s a completely volunteer-run charity and the people involved are committed to doing marvelous work to support young people who have a lot more difficulties than others.

"They are the nicest bunch of people I have ever come across in my life and they really do deserve support.”

Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living said: “We are so grateful to all nine of these wonderful cyclists for undertaking this epic cycle for Rainbow Living.

"All money raised will go directly towards a fourth Rainbow house in the area, making a real difference to the lives of young adults with disabilities.”

A home-coming reception will be held at Fingle Glen Golf Club, Tedburn St Mary, on Sunday, October 7. Tickets priced at £9.95 per head will include a buffet lunch and an auction.
