SUNDAYS allow a little more relaxed atmosphere to the cricket with two teams from Sandford Cricket Club entered in the North Devon League.

Both the First and Second Eleven’s have played four fixtures each with the Firsts winning three and losing one and the Seconds having won two and lost two. It is a chance for those either on the fringes of the Saturday teams or either too old or too young for the Devon League to have the opportunity of playing competitive cricket.

Sandford Cricket Club only has one mid-week friendly cricket match in the season and therefore opportunities are limited.

The First Eleven have so far used 25 different players in their four games and the Second Eleven have used 26.

In the First Eleven Nigel Ashplant is the only batsman to have scored a 50 although these games are restricted to 40 overs.

Pete Steer has continued the form he has shown on Saturdays by taking five wickets against Newton Tracey.

Ryan Glass took three wickets in the same fixture and Tom Williams has taken three against Hatherleigh on the opening day of the season.

The top score in the Second Elevens of 84 has been scored by Pete Steer, showing his ability with both bat and ball.

There have been 50’s for Chris Blake and father and son Dave and Ben Harris.

Best bowling figures so far go to Simon Saunders who took four wickets against Filleigh. There have been three wicket hauls for Jem Fawsett (three times), Chris Field and to the utter amazement of all those watching the game Chris Theedom!

This weekend’s fixtures at Creedy Park see the Second Eleven at home on Saturday to Barton and on Sunday the Second Eleven have a local derby against Shobrooke Park.

If the weather continues to be so delightful then why not come and enjoy an afternoon of sport taking in a cricket tea or a visit to the well-stocked bar or maybe even both.
