IMPROVEMENTS to some community amenities across North Devon are on their way thanks to a funding boost of more than £34,900 from North Devon Council.

At a meeting of North Devon Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee on November 13, councillors agreed to allocate the money which will be used to help improve various outdoor and sports facilities in the parishes of Instow, Chulmleigh, Fremington and North Molton.

This includes:

• £2,000 towards the pavilion extension at North Devon Cricket Club, Instow

• £3,550 towards a new training/community room at North Devon Yacht Club, Instow

• £5225.33 towards improvements of the Parish Hall, Instow

• £4,949 towards improvements of the pavilion at Chulmleigh Cricket Club

• £6,212.80 towards installation of a footpath at Griggs Field, Fremington

• £12,995.50 towards enhancement of Laurels Play Area, North Molton

Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden, says: “Public facilities like these are so important to our rural communities, by using money provided from new developments in the parishes, we can give back to the people of North Devon in a meaningful way which hopefully will improve quality of life for residents.”

Under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing extra community and social infrastructure as a result of the impact of a new development.

These contributions can only be used for certain things, but are used primarily for public open space projects.
