FOLLOWING completion of the second round of matches in the 2026 Sandford Cricket Club Community League, only Crediton Milling and Sandford Football Club remain undefeated after their first two games.

The latest victory for the Millmen came when they beat Graphic on faster run rate, as their game was brought to an early end when persistent rain meant the match could not be played out to a finale.

Batting first Graphic were bowled out in the last of their 20 overs for 125. Dan Puddefoot with 27 was the only batter to make any real in-roads into the Mills bowling, which was led superbly by Will White 4-10 (three). He was ably supported by Jake Power 2-17 (2.4).

In reply the Mill batters had laid into the early Graphic bowlers, and had reached 74 for four in only seven overs when the rains finished play early.

The following night Sandford Development XI notched up a very impressive 162 for three from their 20 overs against the Three Little Pigs, with Zack Blewett 24, Rhys James 25, Toby Pennington 25 and Alfie Butterfield 27 all showing their prowess, as well as a proliferation of wides (29) from the Three Little Pigs bowlers.

However, the strong Pigs batting order managed to secure a first win of the season when the winning runs were scored in their last over of the match.

Jack James 29no, Aiden Mason 27, Alex Stevens 25, Bailey Carbine 25 all batted impressively for their team to ensure victory.

One downside for the Development XI, and Sandford Cricket Club in general, was a serious injury to young Alfie Butterfield who broke a thumb, and is now likely to be out of action for up to six weeks. Best of luck Alf in your recovery.

The last game of the Second round was between Sandford Football Club and Crediton Rugby Club, who had both won their first games.

The football club batted first and scored 167 for seven in their 20 overs, with knocks of 25 from R.Trump and Glyn Baker, plus another 20 from the gaffer Brad Elliott.

However, the decisive knock came from Dan Uren, making a rare appearance due to unavailabilities, who having retired earlier on 25, was then allowed back in, when the rest of his team had been bowled or retired out. This proved decisive as he eventually finished on 45no when the overs ran out.

The rugby club made a good fight of the run chase, with Elliott Butterfield 28 leading the way, closely followed by Joe Saunders 25, Jay Harris 25 and Ollie Harris 24 doing their best to keep up the required run rate.

In the end they just ran out of time, and finished on 161 for five to lose by six runs, when their 20 overs were completed.

The highlight of the rugby club innings was an outstanding catch in the field by Tudor Morgan-Huggett who dismissed Joe Willcox with one of the best catches that is likely to be seen at Creedy Park this season.
