ALTHOUGH the winter chill could be felt on the skin, the play on the field brought warmth to the heart.
Crediton Locks Ethan Pearce and Danny Martin tested the visitor's defence from the start and throughout the match with solid, committed running, ably supported by flanker Niall Davies-Hale.
Kirton No.8, George Stone, opened the scoring with a strong, straight run himself, touching down under the posts with centre Barrie Karea adding the extras.
Crediton's forwards worked well as a unit with some strong rucking against a committed Torquay side.
Crediton's second try came when hooker, Owen Twigg, won a strike against the head and the ball went wide on the blindside.
The ball was moved back inside where Pearce hit the line at speed, crashing over the whitewash. Karea again added the conversion.
Early in the second half Stone scored his second try, spotting a gap after picking up from the base of a five metre scrum.
Birthday Boy Adam Stanbury, who "bossed" the game well from fly-half, added the second try of the half with a determined break, twirling between defenders to get the ball down.
Following the restart, flanker, Theo Gray, broke into the opposition half and quick hands along the backline fed the ball out to winger Abe Dellamuro, who accelerated from the half-way line to touch down in the corner.
Davies-Hale, who had a try disallowed in the first half, did get onto the score sheet after a deft side-step saw him break through the visitor's backline to score behind the posts.
Karea then kicked his third conversion of the game.
Torquay continued to battle hard and it was great trademark tackling by scrum-half Conrad Saunders that denied the Tics a try as they broke down the wing.
Centre, Lewis Terry, had a strong game in midfield and Stone impressed with the turnovers he won, but this week's Man of the Match accolade went to Karea.
