CREDITON U15's progressed into the second round of the EDYL Cup after winning the first round against Witheridge on Penalties.

It was the first meeting between local rivals Crediton and the newly formed Witheridge team, played at Crediton on November 9 and was to prove to be a tight game, which ended all square, at three goals each after extra time.

Crediton opened the scoring after 10 minutes in the first half with Balthasar Posch finishing off a good move. However, despite some good possession from the home side the visitors levelled the score with a long range lob over the Crediton 'keeper after 25 minutes.

They then went ahead soon afterwards when a Crediton defender unfortunately diverted a cross into the home net.

The score then remained the same until 15 minutes in the second half when Josh Robinson supplied the ball for James Crocker to coolly fire home and level the score. Crediton then went ahead with a free kick from Alex Hill.

Witheridge applied the pressure to get back into the game, but Crediton held tight despite injuries to the two centre backs and midfielder Alex Suarez, which saw all three sidelined. while they recovered.

This necessitated a change of positions with Deyan Tomic filling in at centre back, Will Balsdon and James Crocker dropping back to midfield with Mark Weeks coming on to take over as forward and Ben Manning as defender.

As the challenges flew in the visitors saw two players cautioned but the pressure paid off with a penalty being awarded to them with five minutes remaining on the clock.

Crediton's 'keeper saved the initial penalty kick, but was unable to recover the ball from the onrushing Witheridge striker.

With the scores remaining unchanged after extra time came it only remained for the tie to be resolved by penalties.

Crediton's Oliver Tremlett, Alex Suarez, Deyan Tomic and Will Balsdon all put their spot kicks away, but the hero of the hour was Crediton's 'keeper Charlie Sinclare who saved two out of four penalties to win the game for Crediton. ME
