NEARLY 2,000 runners attempted the Grizzly, at Seaton, a 20-mile, multi-terrain running experience, following a muddy, hilly, boggy and pebbly beach course through Beer and Branscombe on Sunday, March 9.
The boggiest section is almost waist high in mud in places but it hardly slowed down competitors from Crediton who took part on one of the warmest days of the year, to date.
Gary, Percy, Trevor, Simon, Charlotte, Sharon, Victoria and Karen did the full Grizzly.
Sally, Sarah and Mary did the Cub run.
The Cub runners stayed dry but the Grizzly runners needed a hose down from the local firemen after they were immersed in the mud.
The Grizzly also included lots of climbing up cliffs and back down again, then running on a beach, through grass, along a coast path and many other surfaces.
Some 1,541 runners completed the event, organised by the Axe Valley Runners.
With nearly 4,000ft of climbs there were some spectacular sea views to enjoy, despite the three uncomfortable sections of pebbled beach and the notorious bog.
Crediton member, Sarah Ford, said: "It was an extremely challenging event with a fantastic atmosphere and organised extremely well.
"Everyone who finished this event received a unique Grizzy 2014, "Withering Heights" (featuring heath and cliff!) t-shirt.
