EXETER Canoe Club are second in the South West league for kayak racing thanks in no small part to canoeists from the Crediton area.

The Heard family were to the fore this month in the River Exe race when Freddie Heard once again won the regional Under 10 two-mile race in a time fast enough to have also won the under 12 race and gaining 20 points for the Club.

His father, Colin, racing in the Division Three for elite racers with Jamie Piper from New Buildings came a very close second and gained 38 league points.

Veteran racers David Green and Ernie Lloyd both scored in their Divisions, Ernie coming 13th in Division Seven and David coming fourth in Division Nine both in Kirton Kayaks designed by David Green himself.
