ONCE again a good number of teams entered the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface darts challenge, raising almost £2,000 for the WESC Foundation, Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment in Exeter.

Trophies and certificates were presented at a buffet evening at the Red Lion Inn, Tedburn St Mary, home of the team who raised the most sponsorship.

Awards were presented by Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface president Paul Taylor who said WESC, the club’s main charity this year, was a cause close to his heart because he had been a pupil there.

“It provides wonderful, specialist education for children and support for older people as well as for those with other disabilities. It offers a really impressive service,” he said.

Mr Taylor added that it was likely the money raised through the sponsored darts challenge, held this February, could go towards buying a VDU.

Teams of six played darts continuously for two hours on one evening at their various pubs and clubs.

The shield for raising the most sponsorship by an individual was won by Bob Moss of the Plymouth Inn, Crediton. The Plymouth Inn men’s team also won the shield for the highest men’s score.

The Red Lion ladies team at Tedburn won the shield for the highest team sponsorship raised as well as the shield for the highest score.

The Crown and Sceptre at Newton St Cyres won the shield for the highest sponsorship raised by a mixed team.

Certificates were received by the Earl of Portsmouth at Chawleigh, New Inn B and the New Inn mixed team at Coleford, Club Crediton and Bow YFC who played at the Waie Inn.

After the presentations, everyone settled down to enjoy a generous buffet.
