CHULMLEIGH karting star Jem Hepworth says she is “thrilled” to be the first female to be awarded the Dunlop Trophy by Mansell Kart club for achievements in motorsport.

It is awarded annually to the driver the committee feel has excelled beyond karting into the world of motorsport.

Jem said: “I’m so thrilled to have received the fantastic Dunlop trophy for achievements in motorsports from Mansell kart club.

“So proud to see my name etched beside some great racing drivers.

“It really does top off a fantastic year with lots to look forward to in 2020.

“It doesn’t all happen by chance and I have to thank the following people and organisations: YRDA, Team Clay, Downforce Radio, d2bd, Brisky Racing, Fastr, Exeter Grown, Larkbeare Service and all my family and friends.

“It was a complete surprise and I’m so proud to receive it.”

Jem added that she has also been nominated for two awards by Downforce Radio, firstly the John Bateman Club Racer of the Year and secondly, Best Team (together with Katie Milner, Alice Hughes and Sami Bowler) for their incredible performance in the 24-hour C1 race at Silverstone back in May.

Those results will be announced at Autosport International.

Jem has been a keen kart racer since June 2012 at the age of 11.
