IT IS now Week 12 of the West Somerset Miniature Rifle League contested by Minehead and Williton Target Shooting Clubs. Minehead A hosted Williton A and Williton B hosted Minehead B.

It was a very cold night and that was reflected in the scores with nobody performing above their average. Minehead A enjoyed a comfortable if not outstanding win against Williton A, scoring 285 compared to 281. The scores were the second lowest for both teams.

The Minehead team of Mark Parfrey, Bill Smyth and Pippa Sullivan all scored 95 whereas Williton's Erica Jones, Andy Phillips and Martin Grellier could manage only two scores of 94 and one of 93, well below their normal performance. Minehead A beat Williton A in the handicap leg by a very narrow margin.

Over on the Williton range which, unlike the Minehead venue, is outdoor - and all complained about the cold. Williton comfortably won, scoring 283, interestingly more than their A team who were on an indoor range.

Congratulations should go to their novice shooter Steve Munday who top scored with 95, supported by scores of 94 from Alan Coomber and Guy Morgan.

Minehead B could manage only 258 with Andrew Moore top scoring with 93 and a solid 88 from John Putt. There was a disappointing 77 from Kevin Sanders who had equipment problems.

Williton B also won the handicap leg. The positions at the end of Week 12 are: In the gun score league, Mnehead A are now six points ahead of Williton A and eight points ahead of Wiliton B. Minehead B have yet to score a win in this category.

In the handicap league, Minehead and Williton A teams both have ten points but Minehead A have exceeded their average by slightly more. Williton B are third with eight points and Minehead B lag again with four points.

Pippa Sullivan of Minehead leads the ladies competition, Bill Smyth of Minehead the veterans and Mark Parfrey of Minehead the Burford Trophy.
