In 58 teams of four, 232 people took part in this year’s competition which began on August 3 and ended with the semi-finals and final on August 15.

It was a special day for The Rolling Stones, the same team of Mike Stone, Jonny Stone, Tim Greenslade and Julian Hooper, last having won the title in 2013.

They won the final with a result of 24-9.

Paul Radnor, from Crediton Boniface Rotary, who organised the competition on behalf of the club, presented the trophies to the winners and runners-up.

He said that through the support of those taking part, and those who supported the raffle so generously, the club would be able to make a good donation to Age Concern Crediton and Children’s Hospice South West.

Mike Canning said that the income from the bar by during the competition is a big boost to the Bowling Club.

He explained that last year the money raised during the weeks it took place helped raise funds towards new heating in the clubhouse.

This year, he explained, that the money will go towards replacing the windows at the front of the clubhouse.

He said that was all down to the support that people had given.

The competition was started in Crediton 51 years ago as a chance for people, who did not normally play bowls, to take part in a friendly competition, and to raise money for local charities.

The name derives from the fact that local “industrial” firms were invited to take part. This has been expanded to include all organisations or groups of friends.
