ON a chilly, breezy but sunny Saturday afternoon, members of Crediton Bowling Club gathered for the opening event of the season.

The first wood was sent down by the Rev Matthew Tregenza, Rector of Crediton, a new experience for him.

Afterwards everyone spread around the edges of the green for a spider start.

The successful and friendly club has more than 100 playing members plus its social members. Six skittles teams play at the clubhouse in Newcombes Meadow through the winter.

The club has bowling coaches and anyone interested in playing bowls should please contact the secretary on 01363 772943. The club charity this year is Prostate Cancer UK.

Club member and long-time Devon player, Christine Marshall is Senior Vice President for Devon Ladies this year.
