NORTH Tawton Bowling Club has made great strides in the last couple of months to get its new clubhouse up and running but with some finishing touches still to do it was decided to delay the clubhouse opening.

However the new bowling season opened on Saturday, April 22, at 2.30pm, with speeches and the first wood laid by president Paul Andrews.

The green looked in an immaculate condition and members soon took to it to play some ends.

Thanked for their efforts by the president at the opening of the green were chairman Mike Thwaites, captain Tom Watson, vice-captain Jan Summers, Robert Arscott the treasurer, fixtures secretary and greenskeeper, secretary Gordon Denham and committee members Lloyd Reynolds, Margaret Arscott and John Kinsey.

New members, old members and beginners are invited to join North Tawton Bowling Club.

The official opening of the clubhouse will take place on Saturday, June 10 and attending will be representatives from Sport England and Virador, North Tawton Town Council, the contractors, West Devon Borough Council and many others who have assisted in the creation of the new clubhouse.

In addition, on Thursday, June 1, Bowls England will be going to the club.
